Viola M. Lundquist, age 89, died on Monday, August 5, 2010 in the Rachel Circle, a caring and loving community at the Merimac Nursing Home in Rotterdam. From her birth in Troy, on May 13, 1919 to her death on Monday she nourished people around her with love, faith, and music. She was born on a farm near Schenectady to Albert and Hannah (Sullivan) Bergdorf and was the youngest of four children. By the age of five, Vi started playing the piano and by the age of 15 she was giving lessons from the parlor of the farmhouse. She continued playing the piano for 85 years. After graduating from high school, she attended the Union Teacher’s College in Rochester. Following her training, she began her career teaching elementary students in Valley Forge, PA. It was Viola’s dimples and her talent at the piano that attracted Bruce Lundquist to her in 1942 at Kasimir Elementary School. Viola and Bruce married on September 15, 1946 in Troy. Following Bruce’s ordination into the ministry, the young couple served a number of congregations during their life together: first in Wayne, NJ; then Milwaukee, WI; then Green Valley, NY. Left to honor Vi and remember her love are Vi’s four children, Sharleen (Don) Rasmussen, Jane (Rick) Milhaus, Stephen (Carol) Lundquist, and Dave Lundquist; five grandchildren; Court (Nancy)Rasmussen, Marcus (Eileen)Rasmussen, Jessica (Katherine Cross) Milhaus, Christina Lundquist, and James Milhaus; three great-grandchildren: Eamon, Isadora, and Nathaniel; a sister, Barb (Bobby) Van Dew; and many nieces and nephews. Vi was preceded in death by her parents, brother Hal, and sister, Andreen. Viola will be remembered as a bright, shining light in the various communities and churches she served. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 13, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 3245 Knickerbocker Rd., Rotterdam, with the Rev. Nancy Pauline officiating. Burial will follow at West Side Cemetery in Rotterdam. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 12 at the Langford-Baskin Funeral Home in Rotterdam, and again at church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service. The Lundquist family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the Merimac Nursing Home in Stoughton, specifically those in the Rachel Circle for their attentiveness and loving care. Walter Leslie Bornmuth, age 81, passed away at his home in Portland, surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 13, 2010. He was born on February 7, 1929 in Mount Vernon, Washington to Ralph Henry and Mona (Silvers) Bornmuth. Walter attended a one-room grade school in South Chester, from which he graduated the eighth grade. Walt went on to graduate from the University of Oregon with a degree in Biology. On June 7, 1950, he married Beverly Ann Siggerstad. Together, they had five sons. Walter and Bev enjoyed traveling together as well as spending time with family and friends. Wayne was a Biology instructor at Forton High School, where he made lifelong relationships with many teachers and students. A scholarship in his name is sponsored and financed by a former student. Wayne served three terms as President of the Silverton School Board, and the Lutheran Cemetery Association. Walter’s special interests and hobbies included raising a family and caring for God’s creation through planting trees and gardening. Some of his favorite times out and about were to watch his grandchildren play basketball, having lunch with friends, and canoeing with his sons. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Bev; sons, Carl (Valerie), Paul (Gert), Tim (Amy), Howard (Erin), and Ken (Mandy); 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at noon at Grace Lutheran Church, 908 Army Rd., Silverton. Burial will follow at Silverton Lutheran Cemetery. Janet L. Morris, age 43, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Baltimore. She was born August 18, 1967, in Jefferson, to Jerry “Rob” and Marilyn (Farmer) Robertson. She was a 1984 graduate of James Madison High School. She married Eric Morris on September 15, 2001, in Baltimore. She worked as a project manager with Abrams Construction, displaying a wonderful knack for solving problems. Janet truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, snacking, and spending time with her nephews and nieces. Janet had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She is survived by her husband, Eric; a brother, Jerry (Angie) Robertson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family, friends, and others whose lives Janet touched are invited to the OSWALD-GENT FUNERAL HOME, 2092 W. Hamilton Parkway St., Monroe, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2008, to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat. |
